Finding veterans with the military report

Reports basics

There are 2 places to find reports: In the Reports tab of the left-hand flyout and peppered throughout the right-hand flyout. Reports found in the dedicated Reports tab will contain general, cemetery-wide information, while reports found in the right-hand flyout are typically focused on individual spaces, lots, burials, etc.

Not sure what a flyout is? Refer to our Platinum basics page.

Reports tab

Open the left-hand flyout. At the top are 3 tabs- click on the 3rd tab, labelled "Reports". At the top of this tab is a dropdown where you can choose a report to generate. Based on the report chosen, sometimes additional options will appear below the dropdown. To generate a report, click "Generate and view report". The report results will appear in new popup.

Some reports are quite large; for these, we limit the list of report results to 2,000 records. Use the "Record set" selector to page between the report's records. For these large reports, we recommend using the "Download all records" button and downloading a spreadsheet of the report, which you can then open in Excel or another program.

Reports available in the Reports tab
Report name Description Additional options
Available space list Get a complete list of all available spaces in your cemetery.

Note: The label "space" may be different based on your cemetery's settings. For you, it may be "plot", "grave", or another term.

Summary & group by: Use these 2 options together to generate summaries of cost, count or both by section, space type, and more.
Burial Activity/Management Report List all burials that occurred in a specified time range.

For this report to work correctly, burial dates need to be recorded in CIMS for each burial. Burial dates can be found in the Burials tab in the right-hand flyout.

Group: Generate a chart showing burials per month, burials per year, and more.

From & to: Use these 2 options to refine the burials shown in the report.

Include records without a burial date: Not all burials may have a burial date recorded in CIMS. Choose to include these burials or not in your report using this option.

Finding veterans with the military report

Looking for your veteran burials? Use the military report!

In the Reports tab of the left-hand flyout, choose "Military report" from the dropdown at the top. Click "Generate and view report" and a popup will appear with a list of your veterans and their information. You can download this list as a spreadsheet or print it out using buttons located at the bottom-right of the popup.

The "Group" dropdown is optional; use it to group veterans by war, branch or rank and get counts of veterans in those wars/branches/ranks. The popup with the list of veterans will have counts and a bar chart at the top.

You can also find veterans using the Search tab. Veteran burials can also be given a specific color on CIMS Platinum maps.

a few items to note about reports:

  • Most reports were imported from the desktop version of CIMS. The Desktop version has low level system access to the print drivers and was able to control the format, layout, margins, and fonts of these reports with a great degree of control than what is available through the browser. This sometimes results in a report that while containing all the same information may not be as readable as the desktop version.
  • using the Chrome web browser will give you a print preview where you can see:
    • how many pages a report will take up
    • set the margins
    • turn on./off background color printing
    • set portrait or landscape mode
    • print in color or black & white.
  • depending on your Internet speed some reports may take several minutes to prepare.
